FAA Part 107 Renewal

How to Renew Your FAA Part 107

The FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot program is now several years old. Those that have received the certificates know that this is a lifetime certificate. While the certificate is good for life, just like regular aircraft pilots, Remote Pilots need to renew every two years.

Remote Pilot Certificate vs. Recurrent Test

There isn’t a huge difference between the Part 107 written exam and the recurrent knowledge test but the recurrent test is much easier and can now be done online .

The recurrent test is made up of 40 questions, versus 60 on the certification knowledge test. It covers Regulation, Airspace, and Operations (

weather

or loading/performance not included). The exam takes about 1 ½

hours

to complete and can be taken at the age of 16, versus the new age of 14 for the certification knowledge test.

Upon passing (70% or higher), drone pilots receive a license, which they don’t have to renew through IACRA for 24 months. Simply hold on to the passing test report  and provide to the FAA if requested.
